Purple Magic Phone Announced

Purple Magic Phone Announced
No, you don’t need Prince to announce the Purple Magic cell phone as it was introduced today, being based on the NXP Nexperia Cellular System Solution 7210 for 3G, along with the Purple Labs Linux suite. This is but a reference phone as at time of publishing, but it is already been described as a “fully integrated, turnkey solution” - so in all probability, other handset manufacturers might be working on their own versions of the device already. It is hoped that this handset will further drive down the cost of ownership for a 3G handset. Which is your favorite 3G phone to date, and why? The Lockdown: Lasershield - convenient, cost effective, potentially vulnerable
Posted Jan 31st 2008 2:24PM by Marc Weber TobiasFiled under: Features, Household What we may have is “a failure to communicate!” In previous Lockdown articles we have examined the vulnerabilities of mechanical locks and how easily most of them can be compromised. Even some popular high security locks can be easily bypassed — if you thought that installing a deadbolt would provide all the protection you may need, think again. But if your locks will not adequately protect you, then what will? How about a portable alarm system that is affordably priced, a cinch to install, and virtually immune to the most common cause of false alarms (keypad entry errors), maybe something like the LaserShield. Hands-on with Sony’s new T, S, and H series Cyber-shots
Posted Jan 31st 2008 3:37PM by Steven KimFiled under: Digital Cameras While it’s always great to see your consumer point-and-shoots get a decent spec bump or two, Sony’s not really offering too many breakthrough new features in the latest refresh to its T, S, and H series Cyber-shots. Still, it was nice to check out the updated DSC-H3, DSC-S700, and DSC-T200 at Sony’s PMA booth in the form of the DSC-H10, DSC-S750 / S780, and DSC-T300, respectively. Get a GOAT to mow your lawn

Get a GOAT to mow your lawn

I hate mowing the lawn. I grew up in the country, which meant there was a lot of grass to be cut. In addition to my parents’ lawn, I also did the mowing for our kind, elderly neighbor. In all, there were about 3 acres worth of grass. I joked with my parents about getting a goat or two, as they would simply eat the grass. I’m going to guess that someone else had a similar childhood, because they’ve created the remote-controlled GOAT lawn mower. No, it’s not actually a goat, but it does cut down on the amount of effort you’ll put into your grass trimming. What’s better, it does so using a hybrid petrol/electric motor that’s strong enough to strap on a plow and move some snow in the winter months. 700MHz auction exceeds $10 Billion, open-access just one bid away
Posted Jan 31st 2008 7:00AM by Thomas RickerFiled under: WirelessWith weeks still to go, your dysfunctional Uncle Sam is briskly rubbing his hands at having raised more than $10 Billion from the 700MHz auction. This, after just 16 rounds of bidding. But we’re not happy to say the least. The all powerful, all propagating 700MHz “C” Block continues to stagnate at a bid of $4.3B — unchanged since round 13. Perhaps the other contestants are waiting to see if Google carries through with their $4.6B pledge to trigger the open-access rule. Round 17 begins in just 3 hours and requires a minimum bid of $4,713,823,000. So let’s get the lead out bidders, what’s another $400 million compared to our undyi (Read the full post about ‘700MHz auction exceeds $10 Billion, open-access just one bid away’…)

Mobile office sphere
In case you like travelling and have a laptop you will probably agree that sitting with the laptop on your knees can not be regarded as a comfortable pastime. But sometimes it’s really impossible to find a convenient place for using your laptop. Maybe there is something that should be invented to make this process easier? Michiel van der Kley who has been producing designs since 1987 has just the same opinion. That’s why he decided to design Globus concept that shows his creativity and imagination. Globus represents a multi-functional mobile office that looks like a sphere. When the gadget is closed its strange design can attract the most curious of spectators, but in case it’s opened people will understand its function at once. I like a good chair PC chair, my current one is giving me headaches as it is a little bit too wide for my desk. This chair from Pyramat seems to have the form factor down to a size that will comfortably fit most desk environments and they have brought 2.1-channel sound to the party as well. There are two full range speakers placed either side of the headrest and there is a powered subwoofer hiding somewhere in the construction. Aside from things like the MP3 dock, the PC Gaming Chair 2.1 is a plush looking seat. (Read the full post about ‘A Plush Ride, Pyramat’s PC Gaming Chair’…)
