Posted Mar 4th 2008 5:34PM by Nilay PatelFiled under: Portable Audio Man, Qtrax just can’t stop over-hyping and under-delivering, can it? The company’s trumpeting new deals today with EMI Publishing, Sony / ATV Music Publishing, and TVT Records, but of the three deals, only TVT will actually have music available for download. The deals with EMI and Sony / ATV are for publishing rights only, and since publishing companies only represent songwriters, and don’t actually own the rights to the song recordings, Qtrax still can’t offer songs to consumers. It’s confusing, but Qtrax needs both types of deals to make things work. (Read the full post about ‘Qtrax announces deals with EMI and Sony / ATV, still can’t distribute content’…)

Once you’re an adult, it doesn’t mean that you ought to cease playing. Playing fires the imagination and helps us unwind, in addition to revitalizing that noggin’ of ours. Starting your Stikfas adventure is easy – just remove the plastic pieces from the sprue and assemble. Now you have a tiny action figure full of possibilities. Each Stikfas is about 3.2” tall and has at least 14 points of ball-jointed articulation. And every pack is a theme pack, which means you’ll get tons of accessories (read: weapons!) specific to that theme. Some folks like to leave their Stikfas as is (nude?) – others like to apply some of the STIKers included for more personalization. (Read the full post about ‘Stikfas fires your imagination’…)

I don’t typically throw around terms like best game ever on a platform very lightly. But then again, when have I previously gotten a chance to play a game like God of War: Chains of Olympus. The PlayStation Portable has seen some very solid titles since its launch, and yet the prospect of God of War on Sony’s handheld had not yet materialized. Until now, that is. First, let’s put the relative hype into perspective. Back in 2007, God of War II was one of the first games that I reviewed when our game’s section re-launched. It earned extremely glowing marks across the board. In October, we reviewed the God of War: Chains of Olympus: Battle of Attica demo disc. When Asus launched their Eee PC, they took the industry by storm. While the tiny notebook was too small to suitably replace most people’s laptops, the low price and portability made it tempting to people of all walks of life. Asus knows that they hit gold with the Eee PC, and will be announcing what can only be described as its big brother later today. The new notebook which is rumored to be called the Eee PC 900 will feature a much larger 8.9-inch screen, which will look absolutely gargantuan next to the 7-inch screen of the original. The other rumors peg this new machine at having 1GB of RAM and up to 12GB of storage space. Of course the biggest question on everyone’s mind is price. The Kyocera K323 Bluetooth speakerphone is now going cheap for $15 a pop, and being powered by a cigarette lighter in your car, you don’t have to worry about it ever running out of batteries. Features include voice dialing (depending on your carrier), last number redial, and volume control buttons. Hopefully the K323 will be able to cancel road noise generated by your vehicle, but judging by the price, I have my doubts. I’d say get a Bluetooth headset when you want to drive instead in order to avoid such problems. (Read the full post about ‘Kyocera K323 Bluetooth speakerphone’…)

Posted Mar 4th 2008 2:04AM by Richard LawlerFiled under: Displays, HDTVPioneer is officially “reviewing the plasma business”, according to a release today — much like Toshiba’s “review” of the hd dvd business in February when it had decided to quit in January — while a Reuters source confirmed The Nikkei’s earlier report that Pioneer is getting out of the plasma panel manufacturing game altogether. While Pioneer would keep building plasmas based on panels sourced from Panasonic, according to the report, this would mark the exit of the the 5th ranked plasma manufacturer, and host to some of the best PDP displays and technologies around. Intel announced a new family of low-power processors that will run its low-cost PCs and mobile internet devices (MIDs). Branded as Intel Atom, this new processor will be based on a new Intel microarchitecture designed specifically for small devices and runs on low power. Despite its size the new process still has the same Intel Core 2 Duo instruction set compatibility which consumers have grown accustomed to in their PC and the internet. Measuring less than 25 mm on a chip, the Intel Atom processor supports multiple threads ensuring better performance and increased system response time. By far, this is Intel’s smallest and lowest power processor ever produced yet. (Read the full post about ‘Intel introduces low-power processors for low-cost PCs’…)
