So, this very nice publicist, Katie, asked me to take her new headlight gizmo “out camping or hiking.” Since I try not to do either of those activities, I promised to show it a good time and take it to the movies. The Coghlan’s LED headlight had a great time but might have annoyed some of the partrons with the incessant beam (shines continuously for 25 hours), and brightness (3.5 Lumens of output power). We could have used the night vision filter (flips over light) to hopscotch through the dark theatre without spilling a kernel of popcorn. Best of all, I didn’t look like a miner since it easily clips on a visor, and weighs almost nothing. (Read the full post about ‘LED Clip-on Headlight for camping . . . or the movies’…)

10 Atoms! Think about it. Nano sized.
Scientists at the University of Manchester have made this amazing breakthrough using graphene, a material that is essentially a single layer of carbon atoms. Although transistor size has been decreasing on a regular basis ever since their invention, in recent times, that speed has slowed down due to the breakdown in electrical properties at the nanoscale level.
We may not see graphene-based chips for another 15 or 20 years, but it is one possibility to replace silicon as it reaches its limits.

Summer will soon rear its head, and boy am I looking forward to a more sunny disposition. The 32 Foot Water Blaster will be perfect for any poolside activities if you happen to hold a party then. This water bazooka uses air-powered pump action to safely fire 32′ streams of water, allowing you to drench your target from long-distance. The gun has two nozzles that rotate as the gun is pumped, firing a wide spray to soak multiple combatants simultaneously. The stock rests comfortably on your shoulder, preventing excessive kick, and the smooth pump-handle allows rapid fire. The barrel holds up to 1 3/4 quarts of water and is easily filled under a faucet or spigot. Made of ABS plastic. (Read the full post about ‘32 Foot Water Blaster’…)

I think the first glance at the Chronoswiss Wristmaster will probably result in you thinking that this is a parallel Nintendo Wii of sorts. Remember Wii jokes that involved two GameCubes being duct-taped together? Well, I guess the same can be said for the Chronoswiss Wristmaster. Hailed to be the first automatic board watch for the wrist, you get a double strap and double displays, with a chronograph on the right while a standard display is located on the left. This device just catches my fancy - the Bluetooth Cassette Adapter. Meant for those who still drive in cars with a cassette deck in there, it enables one to connect wirelessly to other Bluetooth-enabled devices like a mobile headset, a portable media player or even a notebook if you’re so inclined. Since they fit into the cassette slot like any other tape, you won’t find yourself taking up even more space in your old jalopy that has turned into Cockroach Hotel. It is powered by an internal lithium ion battery that will last up to 5 hours, and each $46 purchase comes with a car charger and a USB cable. (Read the full post about ‘Bluetooth Cassette Adapter’…)

The on again and off again free Wi-Fi offer that AT&T will begin rolling out for iphone customers will still be coming, at least sometime in the future. With some recent teasing, the roll out had been planned to go live on May 15, but was again delayed. At this point the reasons why it has gone on and off is just a mystery, maybe they messed up and maybe they were trying to test out the service on a stealth level and did not count on the blogosphere making it quite so public. Anyway, from a recently leaked AT&T internal memo, it seems they are not really worried because they have not yet officially announced anything. “The iPhone Wi-Fi offer that was scheduled to launch today has been canceled. Well, HTC has already sold two million Touch handsets and it seems they believe they can do just the same with the newly announced Touch Diamond. Except with the Diamond they expect to hit that two million mark within the year and with the handset being released first in June that gives them just about six months to achieve their goal. Sounds a little lofty, but DigiTimes is reporting that Taiwanese mobile carrier CHT has already ordered about 20,000 to 30,000 units, that number combined with the other large carriers across the world it almost seems doable. by Ryan Block, posted May 17th 2008 at 5:24AMSeriously though, how many are surprised to hear that Motorola’s Chief Technology / Strategy Officer Richard Nottenburg is jumping off the sinking ship? Apparently dude “left to return to the New York area to be with his family and pursue other opportunities,” which is code for a) he was passed over for CEO of the new mobile devices company, b) he was fired, or c) he finally wised up to the direction the company’s taken. by Nilay Patel, posted May 17th 2008 at 12:32AM Wondering what kind of radios are inside all those WiMAX-enabled laptops, ultraportables and MIDs (and, uh, sheets) we’ve been seeing lately? We’ve got a hunch they’ve all got something a lot like Intel’s 5350 WiMAX / WiFi card tucked away in there, and now that it’s hit the FCC, we’re being treated to some class-A photography of the lil’ bugger.
