Gamertell’s Pulkit Chandna is reporting that Alienware has again pushed the envelope, producing one of the most powerful notebooks known to us Homo sapiens. The Area 51 m17x notebook is Alienware’s newest addition to its lineup and it surely will make its owner the subject of very pleasant geeky envy.
At its heart is an Intel Core 2 Extreme processor with a 4 MB L2 cache. Combine this with the 800 MHz front side bus and 4GB ofDDR2 RAM and one can already sense a winner.

CNET reviews the BlackBerry Pearl 8120 and writes, “Finally, the BlackBerry Pearl 8120 is equipped with an upgraded 2-megapixel lens (from 1.3 megapixels), complete with video recording capabilities. For still images, there’s a 5x zoom and flash, as well as three picture sizes and three quality options. You also get white-balance settings and several color effects you can add to the photo. Meanwhile, video options are bit more limited with just two video formats (normal or multimedia message), three color effects, and a video light…Overall, we were happy with the picture quality. Objects were clearly defined, but colors lacked a bit of warmth.

by Darren Murph, posted May 27th 2008 at 5:24AMJust in case you felt there wasn’t quite enough screen real estate on the ultra-sleek V8, RAmos is giving the display even more attention on the Blue Magic T8. The player features a 4.3-inch display, 10-millimeter thick enclosure, built-in FM radio tuner and the potential to play nice with a not-yet-developed dock that would enable video output. by Thomas Ricker, posted May 27th 2008 at 6:51AM Microsoft’s and Ford’s next generation SYNC has official taken us from our origin at Smittenville to the rural outpost of Gobsmacked. The new SYNC adds 911 Assist, SIRIUS Travel Link navigation, and DVD playback on a large 8- or 6.5-inch touchscreen display depending upon the guzzler you choose. The full $1,995 navigation option (or $395 for just the voice-controlled SYNC) is available exclusively on Ford’s 2009 Escape, Escape hybrid, Flex, Lincoln MKS and F150 before rolling out to the rest of Ford’s fleet. A new 10GB hard drive “Jukebox” has also been added which allows you to insert a CD, lookup the Gracenote CDDB info (including cover art) from the pre-installed database, and then rip the audio back to the disk if you choose. Solid State Drives are about to get useful. Samsung has announced a laptop friendly (2.5″) 256GB SSD which will be shipping by the end of the year. Samsung’s Jim Elliott quite rightly points out that this is analogous to the jump from hard drives to flash storage in portable MP3 players. There’s a big difference between the 32GB ipod Touch and the 160GB iPod Classic, for example, but the 32GB is enough for most people.
Samsung also plans to have a 1.8″ model available by the end of 2008. We’re guessing that, while the notebook sized drives will cost the same or less than today’s smaller SSDs, this tiny version will be a little pricey.

VHS. Some of you won’t be old enough to remember video tape. And those of you who are doubtless have a stack of low resolution cassettes somewhere in the basement, maybe next to the box of 8-Tracks and Zip-Disks. Good news. Now you can rip those tapes to digital files, and even burn them to the next soon-to-be-obsolete format, DVD.
Ion’s VCR 2 PC is a VHS player with a USB port. It converts movies into MPEG-4 files, and the included software will take those files and make them ready for various portable devices. That’s pretty much it, but if you, like my father, have the entire collection of Star Trek: The Next Generation on VHS, the $250 player is a lot cheaper than re-buying all those episode’s on DVD.
The VCR to PC will also do double-duty as a general purpose converter.

Samsung has a new SSD in town, and this one takes the cake when it comes to performance and size, picking up a few superlatives along the way to pummel its competition. Touted to be the fastest 2.5″ 256GB multi-level cell (MLC) based SSD in the world that runs on a SATA II interface, it also boasts the distinction of being the thinnest drive with the largest capacity to be offered with a SATA II interface. With such a pedigree, you can expect to fork out your arm, leg and first born if you want to see this make an appearance in future gadgets, although the price will definitely drop to more affordable levels in the future.

Fancy a dress that actually tells the world around you that you’re interested in that particular guy you’re talking too? After all, this Butterfly Flap Dress comes with the necessary electronics to detect an increased heart rate, which is a surefire sign when you’re talking to your crush face-to-face. Of course, wearing this while on a rollercoaster ride will also evoke a faster flutter of butterfly wings on the dress itself as well, but this lovely, sweet fashionable piece was meant to be worn for casual dates. Perfect to get the message across to insensitive guys who find it nearly impossible to read what a woman wants or feels at the moment.

The SuperSmoker is not the first electric cigarette to be released, and I believe it won’t be the last either. This device aims to promote a healthier alternative for those who love the pull of nicotine, and it is also much cheaper as well as easing the lives of smokers with the increasing amount of public smoking bans appearing each day. There is no tobacco within, and the SuperSmoker doesn’t even burn, so you won’t get real smoke. A vaporization chamber within holds a disposable cartridge, creating a tobacco-like flavor thanks to a concoction of food products. The liquid in the cartridge will vaporize whenever the user inhales, making it look like normal cigarette smoke without the same aroma. (Read the full post about ‘SuperSmoker Electronic Cigarette’…)
