Samsung 2.5-inch 256GB SSD

Samsung has a new SSD in town, and this one takes the cake when it comes to performance and size, picking up a few superlatives along the way to pummel its competition. Touted to be the fastest 2.5″ 256GB multi-level cell (MLC) based SSD in the world that runs on a SATA II interface, it also boasts the distinction of being the thinnest drive with the largest capacity to be offered with a SATA II interface. With such a pedigree, you can expect to fork out your arm, leg and first born if you want to see this make an appearance in future gadgets, although the price will definitely drop to more affordable levels in the future. Features include a sequential read speed and write speed of 200Mb/s and 160MB/s, respectively, making it approximately 2.4 times faster than a typical hard drive. It measures a mere 9.5mm thin, making it a snap to install in just about any device without adding further bulk to it. Mass production will being by year end, so I’d wager seeing one of these puppies in next year’s Alienware line up.
