Although Sony Ericsson just churned out a rather impressive array of new handsets this month, it seems the outfit is still having trouble securing record-setting profits. Truthfully, it’s struggling to break even, as evidenced by the second profit warning of 2008 that was issued last week. SE is pinpointing “disappointing European sales of its mid- and high-end mobile phones” as the reason it will likely not see a profit in Q2, and some analysts are suggesting that shipment delays and a dearth of low-end handsets also carry a share of the blame. If you are a second ammendment advocate and worry about the day when the government will outlaw firearms, German designer Martin Hüdepohl has come up with an interesting firearms alternative to keep the public armed. The ammo for which is very plentiful and can be found in most toy stores, daycare centers, and children’s bedrooms.

Hüdepohl has come up with two designs for Lego crossbow pistols called the Thriller Automatic and Thriller Compact. Both gun designs are made almost entirely out of Lego parts themselves and can be found in a new book that Hüdepohl released call Lego for Adults.

As you’re no doubt all too well aware, there’s certainly no shortage of netbook options out there these days, but the number of convertible netbooks is considerably more limited — a situation that little known Aware Electronics now looks set to somewhat rectify. It’s apparently now set to jump into the game with this 7-inch number, which packs an Aday5G 800MHz X86 processor (all bets are off on that one), 4GB of NAND Flash, built-in WiFi and Bluetooth (with optional 3G and GPS), an integrated webcam, dual USB ports, an SD card slot, and the LINOS Linux distribution for an OS. Starting right now, the 17-inch P-Series, 15.4-inch M-Series and 14.1-inch T-series laptops can be ordered with Intel’s latest Core 2 Duo chips, more spacious hard drives and dual-layer DVD writers. For those eying a tower, the FX Series, DX Series and GT Series now provide (up to) a Core 2 Quad Q9300 CPU, 6GB of RAM, an overclocked NVIDIA GeForce 9800GT and price tags starting as low as $549.99. Philips holds the distinction for being the first company in the world to light up its office with nothing but LED solutions. This office is owned by Generali and located at 100 Champs-Elysées Avenue, Paris, making it famous by being a milestone in lighting history. The entire LED effect also goes down well with scene and atmosphere effects that are also LED based. The whole idea can be attributed to architect Anthony Béchu who had been commissioned by Generali, in order for the former to come up with ‘an innovative window in the world of LEDs’. Research has shown that LED lighting solutions improve people’s well-being in addition to providing designers a greater amount of flexibility in the layout of open spaces and the ceiling design.

I always enjoy reporting on the latest Conceptual gadgets, so I couldn’t resist reporting on this one. It is known as the “Kage roi”, is a concept gadget that helps groups come up with more concepts.

Simply put, the Kage roi is a boardroom table that has built-in voice recognition ability. So the next time you and a group of businesspeople are having a vocal brainstorming session, the Kage roi picks up on your keywords, and provides each person a display of its internet search. In short, the Kage Roi is a brainstorming table with a brain.

But it isn’t just the table that is the concept.

Following up its entry into the global notebook market earlier this year, Lenovo this time marked its official entry into the consumer desktop market outside of China. To mark its debut in the global desktop market, Lenovo announced its new IdeaCentre K210 desktop machine boasting of a facial recognition technology called, VeriFace. Lenovo claims that it is the only desktop PC that offers such a feature. In addition, the IdeaCentre K210 also includes an anti-microbial keyboard that inhibits bacterial growth using a special material.

The IdeaCentre K210 also features the Lenovo Vantage Technology (LVT) menu which allows user to recover from system crashes or viruses with just a single touch.

Yes — more breaking electric car news! Just after Tesla CEO Ze’ev Drori announced Telsa’s plans to build the Model S, Elon Musk began discussing its development of electric car tech to get the price of future cars to (and below) $30,000. When asked when that technology would be commercially available, Musk said that it shouldn’t be any more than four years from now. TG Daily is reporting that the latest iTunes 7.7 beta release hints at a new free application to be offered by Apple for the iPhone and iPod Touch. The application called Remote will allow iPhone and iPod Touch owners the ability to access iTunes wirelessly from anywhere within the home. It seems the Remote application would interact with iTunes on a computer in order to control streaming media.

Data to be transferred wirelessly to the iPhone/iPod Touch is expected to include song name, artist and other metadata included in the file for playback. TG Daily reports that Apple tipped its hat to offering such an application such as Remote when it filed an application for such a utility back in 2005.
