Vague as usual, Apple on Wednesday night released its iTunes 7.7.1 update, which "includes fixes to improve stability and performance." The company also released the second beta version of its upcoming iPhone-software update to developers. Apple’s vagueness prompted TidBITS to sift through Apple support forums to gather an idea of just what the iTunes update fixed. Users reported the following issues seem to have been fixed: - A bug related to the CD being unable to eject with iTunes running - Corrupted characters in iTunes track names, - Long waits for iTunes to recognize connected iPods - Slow iPhone backups - Problems syncing iPhone with Outlook for Windows users Meanwhile, Apple also released its second version of the iPhone 2.1 beta for developers. Okay - I’ve covered some unique alarm clocks in the past, but this one really takes the cake, or rather the pork. Imagine, if you will, the smell of a hot cooked breakfast every morning when you wake up. Nice eh? Created by Matty Sallin, Daniel Bartolini, and Hsiao-huh Hsu, the Wake n’ Bacon alarm clock is different from your average variety clock in that it doesn’t use sound or harsh vibration to arouse a weary sleeper. Rather, the unit cooks a slice of bacon for you to fill your bedroom with the smell of breakfast. The way it works is that a person puts a slice of frozen bacon into the tray of the clock before going to bed. (Read the full post about ‘Wake n’ Bacon wakes you with the smell of breakfast’…)

Sometimes I’m amazed at the sheer amount of Lego inspired gadgets and even furniture that pops up. Well here’s one more for you and this one comes in a chic smoky white form. For once, this one won’t actually cost you a small fortune either. So many vendors take advantage of the fact that Legos have so much geek appeal that no matter the price, someone will buy it. This light actually has an extra perk thrown in. It has an extra layer that can be snapped off or on that has little cups to hold your pens and other little things you keep on your desk. It’s amazing how some simple things can be turned into cool geek products. This latest desk lamp designed by Japan’s 25togo looks very much like an oversized LEGO block. The top of the blocks have a snap-off top layer that can hold pens, pencils and whatever else that will fit inside it. The bricks are measured at 6” x 4” x 2.4”, which makes them quite a bit bigger than the standard LEGO block. It’d be interesting to see if anything can be actually built out of these lamps, perhaps an illuminated Christmas tree? The only downer is that these lamps are only available through 25togo’s online store, and are going for about $15 each. (Read the full post about ‘LEGO Lamps To Light Up Your Day’…)

Stress is a huge part of everyday living. I’ve seen a lot of ways people relieve themselves of it–from breaking plates to sweating it out to sleeping on it until it ebbs away. But what about for those of us who sit in front of the computer for long periods of time. Professionals working in front of a screen could get so tired of the monitor, there are times when there’s this pressing desire to smash it to bits. That, of course, is not an option unless you can afford replacing computer parts every few months. With the help of ScreenSmasher though, you smash your monitor without actually breaking it. ScreenSmasher is a software which shows you a realistic smashed monitor complete with appropriate sound effects. (Read the full post about ‘Stressed? Smash Your Monitor As a Stress-Reliever’…)
