Nothing like a touchscreen computer from HP, and the TouchSmart TX2 is one of the coolest I have seen for a while. The touchscreen can be used by two fingers, and the user can apply iphone gestures like pinch, rotate, arc, flick, press and drag, and single and double tap.

The TouchSmart TX2 is unique as it has a specially-designed hinge so a user can convert it into three modes: PC, display, and tablet. It even has a rechargeable digital ink pen that allows the user to draw on the screen. If you want to use the pen to write, it will automatically turn the handwriting into typed text.

Did I mention the HDTV feature? Well, the TouchSmart TX2 has it in spades. The software allows the user to watch Internet TV or movies in high-definition, and it is programmed for multi-touch input while making it simple to search digital content. It looks like there are plans to offer channels to HP users that include MTV, COMEDY CENTRAL, Nickelodeon, and many others.

Other features of the TouchSmart TX2 include a 12-inch screen (1200 x 800 resolution), a dual-layer DVD burner, a trio of USB ports, and a multi-card reader. As for memory, it has a 250GB, 5400-rpm hard drive. It has a 2.2 GHz AMD Turion X2 ZM-82 processor.

The TouchSmart TX2 weighs in at a very light 4.5 pounds, and costs at about $1150. It should be available for pre-order now, and should ship by the end of November.

Source

Apple late Thursday night released a major software update for its iPhone operating system, introducing features such as remote podcast downloading and Google Street View.

Remote podcast downloading enables users to download audio and video podcasts onto their iPhones with the iTunes app over a wireless connection. In the past, to get podcasts on iPhones, users had to download them onto iTunes on their computers and then connect the handset to sync the files.

Apple also made major changes to the Google Maps app, which is now capable of displaying Google Street View, a mode that provides a 360-degree view of thousands of locations taken with cameras mounted on Google's cars. Also new to the Maps app are the abilities to look up walking and public transit directions, view addresses of dropped pins and share location via e-mail.

In addition to new functions, iphone 2.2 decreases dropped calls and set-up failures, according to Apple. Other fixes include better sound quality for voicemail, improved Safari performance and enhancements to the Mail application.

Thursday's release validates a few rumors and leaked screenshots floating around about the update a few weeks ago.

And no, there isn't yet copy and paste.

Updated Friday, 11 a.m. PDT: Check out our round-up of everything we know about iPhone 2.2, which includes features unmentioned by Apple.

Well, since Prada has essentially conquered the world of fashion, I suppose it is just natural that they take on the world of cellular phones. The Prada has a full 3-inch touchscreen, with a slider QWERTY keyboard as well.

Other features include dual-band HSDPA, quad-band GSM, plus a full HTML browser. The user also has the option of listening to FM radio, and watching television with the TV out option. There is also a document viewer for whatever you want to read.

In other words, your phone has entertainment as well as being a phone. As far as memory is concerned, there is 60MB of internal memory, and the phone has a microSD slot.

All this, plus it comes with a matching watch. Did I mention it is Bluetooth? Not only will you be able to view incoming calls and texts on the watch, but it is stainless steel and genuine leather. You can also view the world time, but you have an alarm with stop and snooze.

You should be able to buy the LG Prada II in European countries like Italy, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, and the Netherlands. The price is about 600 euros, but no word on price on the matching watch.

Source

We have covered SpongeBob Squarepants products before on Coolest gadgets, and I thought my favorite was the rectal thermometer until I saw the SpongeBob Speakers.

These SpongeBob Speakers from Npower is a way to play your music with the one who lives in a pineapple under the sea. The big buggy eyes that you see there are speakers, which can roll along to the music.

And when I say roll along, I don’t mean that the pupils move to the beat of the music. I mean that when you lay them on a flat surface, these globes will move to and fro. I’ve included a YouTube video so you can watch this in action after the jump. As you can see, the SpongeBob Speakers have a Sponge dock on the top in order to hold whatever mp3 player you care to plug into it.

You realize that once SpongeBob has his eyes out on the table, Plankton is going to be free to steal the Krabby Patty formula. Okay, I realize there is a whole slew of people who don’t get that joke, but you really need to watch some older seasons of SpongeBob Squarepants, and The SpongeBob Squarepants Movie is one of the funniest ever made.

You should be able to purchase the SpongeBob Speakers from stores like Toys ‘R’ Us for about $39.99.

Source

Digital Recipe Reader Copies iPhone UI, Scams Grandma

The Demy Digital Recipe Reader from Neiman Marcus is not modeled on the iPhone at all.

The minimalist design, the large touch-screen, and the cube-shaped glossy menu icons really do not remind us of the ubiquitous media player.

Alright, so we are kidding. But who are they kidding? Unsuspecting moms everywhere, it seems, as Neiman Marcus is taking the opportunity of the holiday season to sell these at the premium price of $300. I actually overheard an older couple in a city store talking about this as a gift possibility for their daughter a few weeks ago.

The problem is that it is $100 more than the cheapest iPhone (8GB), which could easily serve as the main kitchen helper and access thousands of recipes online. (Did anyone say Epicurious?)

The only apparent difference between the devices is that this one is 'splash resistant,' and of course, doesn't make calls, play movies, or have hundreds of interesting other online applications, like the steak cooking timer. And you can cover the iPhone with any available crappy plastic protectors.

With the recipe reader, you can upload your own recipes to the device by syncing to your computer and it holds up to 2,500 recipes. It does have a slightly bigger screen though, at 7 inches.

But really, the only way this could be a more shameless copy of the iPhone was if it had a picture of Steve Jobs serving up pie with his regular Kool-Aid at a bountiful Thanksgiving feast.

Is this the perfect gag gift for the Apple aficionado who can't wait for his third iphone Touch? We think so.
